In-Home Dog Training / Behavior Modification Training
The Goal: To have a happy, well behaved dog so your whole family can enjoy all the benefits of true canine companionship.
The Method: Ultimately I want to create a “pack structure” within your household. This will be a Leader/Follower relationship with the Human becoming the Leader and the dog falling into a natural Follower state of mind. For this to happen you need to understand your dog and be given the tools to work with your dog from a position of knowledge. Once the pack structure is achieved your dog will listen to you above and beyond any other distractions.
The Process: During the initial consult we will discuss your training goals including any specific common behavior issues; Jumping, Pulling on Leash, Mouthing, Rushing the Door, Counter Surfing, etc or more serious behavioral issues; severe insecurity, fear aggression, dog/human aggression, etc. After documenting these issues and discussing your training program options, I will then give a thorough explanation of the House Rules called the “Rules and Boundaries for Life with a Dog”. These rules are the foundation of the leader/follower relationship. It will be the job of you and your family members to follow and enforce the rules consistently every day. This consistency creates an environment where your dog will understand what is expected of him. This is the foundation of the “leader/follower” relationship and can resolve many issues commonly experienced at home.
The next step is the command training portion of the program. This will usually commence one week after our initial consult giving you the time to begin to the process of setting up the “Rules and Boundaries”. Lessons are usually scheduled every two weeks to allow time to practice and build confidence with the commands. It does not take a lot of time (three, five minute sessions a day), but it does take Commitment! The more you practice, the more positive results you will see. I teach you to work little training moments into your life so they become a part of your daily routine. Throughout the process you will enjoy continuous improvements in communication and a bond built on mutual respect between you and your dog.
